Thanks for all the comments and suggestions to my earlier thread on this problem. Since I had several varying comments about which gear to use I called a retired IH mechanic in the neighborhood for his advice. I was told the reason for using the higher gear is you have less danger of tearing off material from the clutch disc.
I blocked the clutch so it would release, put it in 4th gear and rocked it back and forth about 12 or 15 times on the concrete floor before I heard and felt it release. I drove it around for about 30 minutes (mainly because I just like driving the tractor) and parked it back in the tractor building. The tractor now has a custom built clutch block as noted by Janicholson so doubt this will be a recurring problem.
Thanks again for all the comments and suggestions to my initial thread, Hal.

Very good. The engine to input shaft relationship Clutch) controls the power and torque of the engine. The lower the gear, the easier the engine has to turn the input shaft. Thus higher gears will be easier to "rip the facing off" than lower gears. Thus my suggestion of 2nd gear. It also is slower, and thus things happen slower. (no issue, as it came loose) Jim
