farmall h dip stick

just was asking do they make a dip stick kit that can b installed in an H block so that u don't have to use the check cocks when u check the oil .Thanks .Scott

An aftermarket kit was available. Required drilling into the block for installation if I recall correctly. Off the top of my head I can't remember the manufacturer.

There USED to be an aftermarket kit that replaced one of the petcocks on the side of the pan. The dipstick screwed in at about a 45-degree angle. Pappy's H had one. Don't know the brand...someone once speculated it might've been by Hesler.

I've got one very similar to the one pictured. I think it installs in the oil pan petcock.

I've got a 47 H that has the block drilled and a small dipstick in the hole. It looks like one that would be used in an automotive engine rather than the type IH used on the power units, W, and T series tractor engines.

Nothing specific for an H on the market, but you certainly could adapt the right kind of dipstick kit from the auto parts store.

The difficult part is drilling the block. You really should pull the engine completely apart to drill the hole, and then have the block thoroughly washed afterward, because one little metal shaving could ruin the engine.

Is it really that much trouble to check the oil with the petcocks?

One of the aftermarket ones, there were others.
IH also sold ones to install.

(quoted from post at 18:56:38 07/28/14) This is what the one on Pappy's H looked like:
Heiken dipstick on eBay

WOW. That one sold for $146. Apparently there is some truth in the saying "a fool and his money are soon parted"

I've got one of those Heiken dip sticks. They were made in Atlantic, Iowa. I removed it from my 1940 M and installed an original petcock.
