I've got a late 51 farmall m with what appears to be a factory hour meter on it i've got a friend who collects antique lawn tractors that looked at it and said some old garden tractors had that same company hour meter on it and he was told that they were test tractors i was wondering what you guy's thoughts were on this the company name on it is John W. Noobs Corp that n in noobs was hard to read might be another letter
Thanks for any input

LOL! If every tractor with a HOBBS hourmeter on it was RARE there"d be a LOT of RARE tractors!

IIRC, they became a part of Stewart-Warner, and later, Honeywell.

Like others have said, "Hobbs", not Noobs. Hobbs hour meters can be found on just about any type of machinery, aviation and ag/industrial uses seem to be the most common.

The complete hour meter kit for the M was IH pn. 356735R91, and the MD was 356740R91 (and later -R92), and both have been discontinued for decades. Nothing really special about a tractor equipped with one other than they're neat when they work. Anyone could have bought one, either when the tractor was new, or added it later. I don't know what year IH first made them available, though. Similar, if not the very same kits were available from aftermarket parts sources in the 1950's

You can still buy a new generic hour meter that will fit the bracket from Honeywell/Hobbs. It will not have the dial face, though.
