Hi guys! I just finished up the compete restoration of my grandpa's 1946 Farmall H. I also have his 1950 H that I restored a few years ago. This one was purchased from my cousin, and I repaired or replaced EVERYTHING on that old girl! Every nut and bolt was taken apart, replaced every gasket and seal, refurbished many pieces, replaced others....I painted it myself with Epoxy primer, IH 2150 and hardener, and even though It took a lot of effort, the results were worth it. Thanks to all the help from my dad (Wayne in MN) and my son, Michael! Here are a few pictures to show the changes....

(quoted from post at 00:54:49 07/26/14) excellent job!!!!!

I really like that split stand you've made. Never see one like that but it is really nice. Would be nice to see more pics of it.

Those jackstands look awesome too. Never seen any with bottle jacks on them. Where'd you find those?

Are the ones on the rear axles homemade ones? Those look the best. How do they work with that collar that turns?

Those tools make a great help for sure....the jack stands with
the bottle jacks built in are purchased from Tractor
Supply...maybe $40 each if I recall...They are my favorite tool
ever for working on these old gals. The support stands for the
axels were something I found at an auction for $10...they were
really useful for support, but not so much for lifting anything.
The collar does turn, but not very easily with the weight on it
...a bearing would be helpful there. I built the splitting stand
myself from a picture I saw...I will see if I can post some more
pictures up close of them.

Here are the photos of the splitting stands that I made...I don't recall the sizes of the square tubing, but you will get the drift from the photos....the uprights slide up and down over the posts...the posts can slide side to side. I drilled the mounting plate to fit my H...you could do many different mounts on top depending on the style of tractor you have. I just measured out how big the H was and purchased the materials to fit...

MAN !!! I know how much time & $$$ went into that !!! Excellent job !!!
What was your trick for setting up the ring & pinion ? A lot of them howl like a banshee after new bearings.
Haven't seen a nicer one, I owned a 46 myself, purred like a kitten for having pop ups in it. You certainly did your Grandfather justice. What's your DAD think ? I am sure your son is as proud as well.

I made sure to use the same shims as it came with...I
assembled it, checked to see how it looked and added one
thin shim to take up some slack. I am very happy with how it
ended up. I learned my lesson on the shims when I did the
other one....I ended up swapping a whole rear end to get rid of
that howl! I put in all different gears too, so for all that
changing things I am happy with how it turned out. You can't
hardly add up the money spent..you do it for the love of the
process, not to make cash, that is for sure!

I took it completely apart...if it could fit in the bead blast cabinet, I used that. If it couldn't, I used an angle grinder with a knotted wire cup, or used the bench grinder with a wire wheel on it. For the sheet metal, sanding with a DA and some aircraft stripper for the fenders. It is an incredible amount of sweat and time involved! After cleaning the parts,I sprayed them down with brake cleaner....I bet I used 40 cans of that stuff getting it all degreased!
