Correctly Timing A Farmall MD

Someone stole the magneto before I got the tractor home from the auction I purchased it. Am I correct by getting #1 Cylinder top dead center and magneto on #1 And Installing and good to go or should I do the timing by marks on crankshaft.

An MD is actually timed slightly after TDC, there is an "M" mark on the crank pulley if I remember right. However, they also say to fine tune it by listening to the exhaust with the engine running on gas and going for the sharpest exhaust bark.
Remember that an MD mag turns the opposite direction from a gas engine, and the spark plug wires go in the opposite order on the distributor.
