McCormick W-9 Fuel Tank Insulator

Hi, all. I need to come up with an insulator (flexible strap) for the bottom/front edge of my W-9 fuel tank (part #13 in attached picture). The remnants of mine are very pliable, but flimsy and not thick enough. The tank is flat across the bottom, but the pedestal is slightly "V" shaped. I was thinking of using self-adhesive foam camper seal, but that would probably be too fluffy. Any ideas or leads?

Thanks,

I like the belting idea. The part that bugs me is the "V" shape of the pedestal/center support vs. the flat bottom of the tank. I wonder if the original was molded in that shape, or if it was flexible enough to compress where needed.

Thanks

Those look the same as on a M, all they are is some kind of belting about a 1/4 inch thick and maybe 2 & 1/2 inchs across. You can buy them somewhere and you'd get 3 of the # 6s' and forget about the long strap.
If you have a press and some belting you could sharpen a piece of pipe and punch em out.

If anyone in your area runs a big round baler you could make one out of a peice of old baler belt. It cuts easily with an angle grinder.

Another option would be to cut a peice out of an old truck mudflap...

I was thinking of making three pads and doing away with the strap. My concern was the weight bearing on two points up front vs. the entire leading edge. The tank holds 36 gallons, so it'd be hefty full of fuel. Of course, I probably won't ever have it that full. Thanks again for the suggestions.

Thanks. That's a good idea. I have a neighbor who makes round bales, although he trades balers before they would need new parts. ;-)
