My cousin sent me a picture of a 1066 he found that has an 86 series black stripe on it with the 1066 emblem down below on the lower side panel with the lower side panel being red instead of white. When did IH make the 66 series look like this? Thanks

There were 66 series sold in 76 as well as 75. The 86 series also came out in 76 and sold as well.

I do believe all the black stripe 66s were considered to be 75 models. With left overs sold in 76.

The IH model year started in November. The 66 series tractors were built into the summer of 76. 86 series production started in August but they were not released until mid September I believe.

The Minnesota State Fair runs for 10 days ending on Labor day each year. There were 86 series tractors on display that year but they had the cab and rear of the tractors wrapped in black plastic. The dealership where I worked at the time also received a couple of the new models near the end of August. They also were wrapped in black plastic and had to remain in the warehouse out of view of any customers. Once the fair started one of them was moved to the show room floor but the plastic stayed on until the official release date. I do know that at least a few potential customers got a peek before that date.

IH did not make a tractor that was decaled the way that you describe this. This reads like it is a custom decal setup that someone made using a mix of parts. NOT factory at all.

Never.

That is someone's custom paint job.

On a black stripe 1066, there is a hockey-stick shaped stripe on the side of the hood, going UP at the front. The 1066 is in the "blade" of the hockey stick.

This is the only other "official" IH paint scheme that a 1066 would be painted in from the factory:

Copied from something produced later. The earlier 86 series still had the white panel below the hood and the "dog leg" behind the front grill was white also similar to the early 66 series.

Hmm, no louvers on the lower side panels. It might be a "black stripe."

When you get a chance grab the serial number and make note of its location. If it is on the bell housing it is a "white stripe" and if it's on the TA housing further back, it is a "black stripe."

I do like the paint job. Very tasteful. That's how IH should have painted the early ones.
