Is this Russel Tractor Repair? You guys are in Red Oak, Iowa. I've been past your shop before. I figured that's what "RTR" stood for.

You could try heating the gear in your oven. If that doesn't work, with a little more work you can pull the cam and have it pressed on. Hal

We are actually located outside of Birmingham, Alabama. Not Russell Tractor Repair. RTR means two things "Roll Tide Roll" and "Red Tractor Restorations". Couldn't help but use that name since we are big college football fans and that's my alma mater. Although we haven't done a full blown restoration yet, we have close to 70 offset Farmalls and about half are good runners. Anything that needed rebuilding got parted out. That is why we are "getting our feet wet" with the engine rebuilding side of it now. We typically refurbish tractors and fix all of the other issues when the engines are in good shape.

How would we pull the cam timing gear? You can't get a puller behind it and the holes in it are "flat" towards the center of the gear, so a puller arm won't grab there either.

If you're going to replace the crankshaft pull the engine. Support the rear of the tractor under the drawbar so it doesn't tilt backwards.
I would pull the cam and have the gear pressed off and the new gear pressed on. You may have a hydraulic press. One of my best places I was sent when working for the US Government was Huntsville, AL. Nice friendly people took me

Just got back from Harbor Freight and bought a bearing seperator and a jaw puller to use on the crankshaft pulleys. Now we have a good way to pull those without breaking them.

Still trying to figure out how to pull that cam timing gear.

Thanks Owen....that is the thread I based my question on. I saw what he did and it's funny because I have no idea where he threaded those bolts for the puller. My tractor has a couple of bolts behind the gear where you could insert them, but I didn't see 3 like he shows. Also, none of them line up with the holes on the pulley at the same time. Wonder why??

We have decided to replace the crankshaft also becuase the gear that is welded on the crankshaft has broken loose from the weld and is loose on the keyway...moves back and forth with about 1/4 inch play against the cam gear. Gonna replace the crankshaft and remove the cam and have that gear pressed off.
