Putting a H carb on a super C

I was told by a old timer at the pulls this past weekend to put a h carb on my super c. I am using it to pull but also will use it some around the garden. What are the advantages to this. I'm of course wanting more horsepower. It has a fresh engine. Any other modifications I could make to gain a lil power?

WRONG!!!!Aint gonna fit-aint gonna work...mounts diffrent, goernor 'linkage' is different.....You might be able to jet it like an H,but an H carb on a SC.....no way!!!!

That's what I thought. Again I'm just trying to get more horsepower. There used to be a guy with a super c and it out pulled most everything in weight class. I just can't find anything anywhere on were to start. Ie: a different engine that will bolt up or what to do.

Go to 3 1/4 pistons hi-dome,240 head and manifold 240 gov spring for starters you can end up with 40 pluss HP. You will also want to drill the jet next size with a Numbered drill. The number on the jet will tell you the hole size just go to the next size.

The REAL place to start is learning how an engine works, and how the various factors interact to produce power. We're talking way beyond "suck, squeeze, bang, blow" here. Terms like "stoichiometry" will be involved.

As for that H carb on a Super C, tell him you're from the show-me state, and you want to see how his is set up.

14.7:1 what do I win???

Well I don't know what that word means but I know how a engine makes power. I am a mechanic and have built several. I just don't know what parts will interchange on that series ih. You know I'm wanting to be competitive in the smaller classes. I've seen one of these tractors make a lot of full pulls and still have power and still have the factory block. Mine is a newly rebuilt tractor and is still underpowered, although I did take a first place in the 3250 farm stock pull this past weekend at the TN/ky thresherman show.

If you are dead set on putting a bigger carb on your SC, look around for a 504 carb. Governor linkage will match up, don't know about the mounting flange at the manifold. A 504 carb will support 40-45 hp.
