best place to buy new rear tractor tires

My Magnum is in need of 4 new 18.4-R42 tires. I have had great success with the Firestone. Are there any places out there that deal better than others? I am in NW ohio but would travel if it's justified. Thanks

If you have a good relationship with your local tire shop, go with them. I did with my H tires, got the best prices from the local guy & install was included. The out-of-towners and internet sellers couldn"t come close. They are firestones, and the money stays local.

Your LOCAL tire guy. He's your neighbor(his employees are too!)Your business helps him to keep the lights on,pay his emplyees(jobs).....Local money stays local.Plus you get service, something the out of town internet guy can't/won't do....Even if he "costs more",GO LOCAL.

Go local, it almost always works out better going with them instead of the internet. Like others have said, they are there for service, they can install them many times at a discounted price, fluid might be cheaper if you buy from them, warrantee is easier to deal with, not to mention the buying local helps the community. Also, when I say local tire guy I'm not necessarily talking about your local IH dealer, the local tire center, family owned tire guys, or farm store might be able to get better prices or deals for you than just going with the dealer...With that said, I've heard great things about Miller Tire but then again you have the warranty and service issue if your not close to them...good hunting. ~Anthony

It doesn't take too many miles driving with a big fuel-guzzling truck to use up any money you've saved by chasing halfway across the state/country for your "cheap" tires.

In other words you're not saving anything by paying $100 less for a pair of tires but burning $200 worth of fuel and a day of your time to go get them.

Same goes for having them shipped. Tractor tires are oversize, and generally can't be palletized, so shippers give it to you with no tire lube.

Tires are one item where it pays to stay local.

like everyone else said go to your local tire shop. have had bad luck buying big ticket items going by a picture on a website!!

I replaced one of the rear tires on my M eleven years ago, which I bought from the local Firestone dealer. At that time they had good prices and great service.

Three years ago they got bought out by another outfit. The first thing they did was almost double the price of their tires and services.

So two years ago when I had to replace the other rear tire, I went to the other local tire shop in town. They were almost $400 cheaper than what the former Firestone shop quoted me for a similar (non-Firestone) tire.

Both tires still look like new, since all I use my tractor for is mowing horse pastures and pushing snow with my loader. No heavy work like plowing...

As expensive as tires are getting now, those two tires are a big part of my retirement planning fund. Ha ha ha.

Agree with the local tire shop comments and many will recommend M.E. Miller Tire. They are also located in NW Ohio as you are. How close are you to Wauseon?

Well you guys are correct again. The first local place I checked was $1,500 mounted which is where I experienced sticker shock because I have not bought these types of tires in the past. A second local place quoted $1,750. A third place less than 20 miles away quoted $1,145 per tire plus $95 per tube and a one time $65 charge for changing them at my farm. Grand total that is $5,025. Everyone quoted Firestone 18.4 R42 Radial All Traction. I am amazed these dealers are all within a 30 mile circle and there is this type of variance. I am not sure if I found the best deal out there but they get mounted on my tractor Thursday.
