Hi Folks

Just received a new water pump for the B275 and my question is whether to use RTV on reinstalling it.

Also the replacement pump is a little different in that is came with an extra hole on the inlet side that had a small tube threaded into it. the tube has a screwdriver slot across the end and is hollow so water would come out of it. What is this for? I'm just going to plug it but I was curious as it seems such an odd fitting.

A LITTLE silicone (just a "wiping") of it is OK, any more and it squeezes out of the joint and the "flaps" of it eventually break off and get where they are least needed in the cooling system.

I prefer a tiny bead of anaerobic gasket and flange sealant, or even a little bit of good old-fashioned Permatex.

The extra nipple is used on later versions of the BD154 engine (such as my 424 tractor) as part of a "cooling bypass", IIRC, to the thermostat housing.

one more question. I noticed the fan can go back on 2 ways. I was finding the rad getting clogged with stuff when going through tall grass. on my fords the fans work backwards pushing though the rad from the back which does a good job of keeping stuff off the rad. Can I install it as a pusher on this without something bad happening?

on a side note I appreciate it breaking down in a field of wild strawberries... nice to have a snack in the shade under the machine

Reverse-flow fans have the opposite twist to the blades.

The Fords that move the air forwards have blades with the opposite "pitch".

The fans could be ordered either way.

If you flip your fan front-to-back, it will still "pull", though not as efficiently because the concave side of the blade will be on the side opposite that which is moving air.

damn, I should have known that myself. When I saw there was no hub or anything on the fan my brain stopped.

It's all GOOD!

That very idea has caused a LOT of head scratching over the years, including my own!

LOVE those little tractors, though!

I recently converted my glow plugs to a modern automatic setup and I like the little thing better than ever!

Starts right up with almost no smoke.

I am going to too. We have a bosch distribution centre here so nobody bothers stocking thier stuff, relying on bosch inventory instead. Well they ran out. I waited 3 weeks for the shipment. .. only 1! Came in.... must be for all those 1 cylinder diesels... well ill try again for next weeks shipment. Today i found my parts guy can get original Lucas generators so illl have the charging system back up shortly.....

Any idea how to get to the regulator? Looks like its under the tank
