Installing a 140 manifold on an A

I was wondering if there would be any power increase if you installed a 140 intake/exhaust manifold on a Farmall A? The 140 manifold are supposed to flow better than the A manifolds, so I have been told. :?:

Good morning!
You might see a little gain in power.
The ports on the 140 manifold are a fair amount bigger than the stock A manifold and head.
If you use the 140 head and manifold together it will help your power!

Keep in mind that a horsepower increase is a SMALL percentage. You are not going to get "a few HP", you will get a fraction of a HP increase, because you're only starting out with something like 16HP to begin with.

In doing some research, I found that long tube headers on an LS1 engine can add 15-20 HP, but remember that the engine already has over 300 to begin with. That's only a 5% gain.

Basically you're doing something similar with the 140 manifold, and you can optimistically expect 5%. 5% of 16HP is only .8HP. Odds are your tractor isn't putting out the full 16HP anymore though, and you probably won't get a full 5% because the manifold is not a long tube header.

For all the work and frustration it probably won't even be noticeable. Odds are good you'll twist off at least one manifold bolt, which you will then have to drill out.

As stated, you will get a little. I really noticed an increase when I swapped both the head and the manifold on my Super A with ones from a 240. But I had also changed the block to a Super C block (orignal was cracked anyways) and put the 3 1/4" step head pistons in it. I have never dyno"d it but just from using it I can see a difference. Good luck!

Thanks for the info guys, I suspected the 140 might have larger ports in the heads than a A. Mismatched sized ports can cause flow restrictions which is bad for power.

My manifold bolts are good because I had to take the manifold off to have my A's head milled flat again (bad head gasket), which bumped compression a little.

Just a little idea I had.
