I don't think the frame rails on an H are wide enough to accept a Chevy without doing some serious modifications. Several Ms I know of have a Chevy in them, but I don't think there is a "kit" for them.

mite fit, if you used 350 frame rails, or 460 framerails. you may need to use a 4 speed bellhousing and bolt that to the Hs engine plate, extend the driveshaft out, and make it use a chevy clutch spline.
i tried it once, H bell just wasnt wide enuff to put the block closer back like they do in the M. oil filter n starter wouldnt fit either, so thats why i mentioned the 460 rails. wider, longer, and bolts right up to H bell. hope this helps.

I put a 350 on an irrigation well once. You'll be soooooo disappointed in it as it will be so darned lame. Promise.

Eye candy and that's all.

I'm with Allen. "Eye candy".It wont have any 'power' unless you wind 'er up tight.Dont know about a "kit",but there are 1000s of cases where someone has repowered an H or M(or any other tractor make/model).But it will look cool with twin stacks.......I recently(last winter) put a 2.8L Ford V6 in an F12.Looks cool, but wont pull the sled as far as an 'original' F12.Might have something to dpo with the 14.9x26 combine tires....

This one was feathered in farm show mag.

Saw an H with a Chevy 2.8 V6 in it. What made it work was the fact that the owner had pulled the belly pump out, and in the front of the tractor transmission had installed a 4-speed from an early S-10 with a bolt holding the shift rail in second gear...which happened to be right at a 2:1 gear ratio.

So the torque of the engine at the flywheel was doubled, and the ground speed more closely matched ground speed of the original H, as far as up through 3000-3400 rpm was concerned.

Might look into that...if you can find the right diameter clutch disc and spline count to make that work.

Not a H, but our work in progress Super M (M grill) with an IHC V8.

What we are doing is bolt a spacer between the V8 flywheel and the M, so that we can use the M starter. Similar may work with a smaller motor and an H. Good to know a freindly machenist if your going to do such.

Here is my F20. It has both the Chevy and Farmall tranys. 327 has plenty of power for whatever you want to do. It is all about gear selection.

If you were ever to work it I would want the cam changed to something with a lot of low end, all in by 3000rpm. Any cam company will help you out by phone.(look in any hot hod magazine for a phone #)

I think some Massey-Ferguson combines could have GM small block engines (750 -860 maybe 410 & 510?). Would a combine engine have a variable speed governor and a low-speed, high torque cam that would work well in a tractor? Would a motor home engine/cam be a better choice?

The Massey 410 combines that I knew of, several in our area, all had GM 292 in-line 6 engines.
