806 brakes

I tried on the tractor forum but thought I might get more responses on here. I'm overhauling the brakes on an 806 wheatland, no t/a, and found in and out slack in the shaft the brakes run on, and I am wondering how to go about fixing it, as I know that is what caused my leak to start with. Will I have to split the tractor or can I access the shaft from the top and tighten it up?

Take the drum off has shims behind it you can remove to tighten it up

06 series bull pinion bearings are shimmed on the inside.

Axle housing requires removal to service the bull pinion bearings.

Thanks Jim that sounds like a chore, you wouldn't want to come show me how? Lol Any suggestions other than pulling the axle housing, or best to just let it be?

Well, I let mine be 8 years and 250 hours ago. I just heard a funky clunk in the rear end a few weeks ago, and right now it's tore down for a rear end overhaul. Differential bearings, bull pinion shaft bearings, and axle bearings are the minimum I'm in for. All the shafts and gears look good so far. Thankfully nothing is broken.

I'd make that choice based on a few factors: Do you pull it hard? Do you depend on the tractor for farming? How long do you want to keep it?
