Super C clutch revisited

I am going to be ordering a clutch kit this week for the tractor I just tore apart. Thanks for the input DeltaRed. However, the clutch kit specifically says that it does not come with an alignment tool. Do these people expect us to have one? Or should i ask if it is available?

You dont need one when you roll the tractor forward to bolt back up put the pto in geat and when the pilot shaft meets the clutch disc it will slide rite in by turning the pto over and the splines will line up and mesh. I do it all the time with As and Bs aint used a pilot yet. I do center the clutch disc before i tighten the pressure plate tight.

You must have one heck of an eye gene, because I tried to eyeball a clutch disk once and it looked perfectly centered to me and a buddy of mine, yet I could not get the tractor back together for love nor money. Used an alignment tool and the tractor went back together slick as butter.

I've got a mac universal alignment tool but didn't take it out of the tool box last summer when I put a clutch in my Super C, eyeball it and roll it together like Gene said

As easy as it is to bend/warp/damage a clutch plate, I use the alignment tool, to get it as close as possible.

ANY damage to the lined plate from getting pushed on while the splines are mis-aligned will cause the clutch to "drag" when released, and/or chatter/grab when engaging.
