E4A magneto points

Is there any place that one can buy points for an E4A magneto?

I've done some googling on magneto repair places... not finding any.

Thanks if you can help.

Thanks, Cowman... will keep that in mind.

Husband is not sure if it is points or coil...or something else (not familiar with E4A, so learning experience is ahead) - but our Regular runs better with an F4 magneto than when he puts on the E4A.

The E4A magnet is charged because we know an old mechanic/machinist who has a charger.

Sweetfeet, go here first, Rudy was trained by one of the best, and he may have them in stock:

You can also try Tom Underwood, Parts of the past (phone only - leave a message if necessary) He has no website and tell him I sent you:

Parts of Past Inc
1320 Spencer Drive
Lawrence, KS 66044 - Phone: (785) 749-5231

Here is also a good source, although a wee bit expensive:

one more thing, be prepared for sticker shock when having an E4A serviced, or buying parts. These are very good mags, but since they are so old, parts are scarce, OR the re-wound coils are just that.......re-wound which is labor + copper for what amounts to a manual, hand crafted job. With the F4 mag and the H4/H1 mags, those coils are now repop'd on production machines, and while not cheap, they are certainly less expensive that the hand-wound ones.

Tom,

Thank you for all this info... I saved it.

Yes, we have seen the prices on rebuilt E4A's -
that's why my husband would like to get it working
well himself, if possible. But has considered
sending in a core for a completely redone
armature... but wanted to know if we can get new
points before deciding anything.

The Regular is running fantastic on the F4
magneto... (we had an extra around for our F20 and
bought the coupler needed to go with it).

Wish I could post videos, because I shot a short
clip of him mowing the field lane with the Regular
on July 4th. (Guess I'll have to get a youtube
account and learn how).

Check out those links. They sell just rotors, just coils, etc. etc. Rebuilding an E4A is no harder than rebuilding an F4, BUT, the parts tend to be the issue. Yes, there are more parts in an E4A, but if you take your time, and get a manual (there are reprints out there), they are not that bad.

If you want, I would be happy to help your husband out, feel free to call with any questions.

Tom, thanks so much for your offer to help. I'll
let my husband know (but it could be a little while
before he gets a chance to work on it, as work is
predicting more OT hours again).
