There is a nice one for sale with 4000 original hours, excellent
shape. Wanted $7000 firm. Told him I wasn"t interested
because I wanted a 986 or 1086 for the better cab.
Came back and asked how much I"d offer.
So back to the question , will it run this size haybine
comfortably? Also if it does gonna tell the guy ill take it for
$4000. Use it for a couple years and then move on.

Yes,a 966 will have plenty of power.$7000 is a fair price if it is in good shape and has good tires.

If it has 4000 hours and is in excellent shape it must have been very well cared for. That is a lot of hours for a pull-type windrower.

Those are good tractors and that is a good price if it is solid. I paid more than that for a nice 806 open station with new tires and the newer 1256 turbo diesel engine in it.

966 is the best buy I have gotten on a tractor. Paid 2500 for mine. It does have 9000+ hours, but with the cab and loader, and good tires. No used heavily, so should last me several more years. Have had it for 5 years now. It does my tillage and planting on my acreage.

Yes it will run the haybine fine. The hydraulics could be better but should work.As for offering the man $4000 for a $7000 firm asking price you would be getting a good deal and if he takes it I would be surprised.I have bought and sold many tractors and negotiated many deals and sometimes a low ball offer is met with a click or no sale at any price just depends on seller.
