Red Power Round Up in Northeast?

Quick question, I know RPRU location is voted upon but is there a reason it doesn't come to the east coast? I'm a teacher and can't take the time off to travel west in the middle of the week right at testing time. but, I probably could make the trip if it were in the northeast, at least for a day. Does the chapter put it's name in and people vote? I know NY and PA have chapters, was there a show years ago that had a poor turn out? ~Anthony

The Red Power Roundup was held in Bloomsburg PA in 2003 and again in 2007 near as I can tell.

Anyway, that's about as Northeast as it's gotten. Apparently it was a success as they held it there twice, and this year they had the "Red Power Showdown" at the same site.

You've got to consider that the more centralized you make the show, the more people come. If you pigeon-hole it on the East coast, then EVERYONE has to drive a long-long way to get there, except East coasters.

Also, in moving around, the show is close to SOME people at least once. The USA is a big country, so it may be several years before it comes back around to where it's near you.

Alabama is making plans to host the Roundup for
2018. Is that east enough for you? Of course that
will have to be voted on next year before it's a
sure thing but I have not heard of any other Chapter
wanting to take it on for 18 at this point.

I live 10 miles from Bloomsburg and I farm. But I never knew the round-up was here. Maybe some better advertising would help.

Dave, you are right. I live about 25 miles from Bloomsburg and didn't know about the show until someone happened to see a flyer somewhere.
I was able to make the show. It was sponsered by a local Red Power Chapter.

New England has a chapter it's 18. They have a show in
august in Dublin NH in August it's an all IH show it's no RPRU
but a great show. Every year I have been it gets bigger and
better they do a great job at the show

Howard,

Rumor has it, Illinois may put a bid in again for '18. I heard it at the hotel in the pool from a Chapter 32 guy.

I liked DuQuion other than the heat. He said the fairgounds would love to have us back and is treating them very good so far.

Anthony, as others have said, the local chapter
must put in for it and the membership must vote
on it. So as you can imagine, most folks don't
want to travel the distance. Especially with $4+
diesel fuel. Thus it typically stays in the midwest
where the majority of members are located.

It is definitely worth the time to attend if you can.
Call in sick if you have to.....

Well, I am going to irritate a whole bunch of people, but I don't understand why there can't be 2 RPRU shows. One east, and one west. There are plenty of members on both coasts, and at the end of the day, this is a hobby. I attended the Red Power showdown this year, and was pleased. I didn't make it to the RPRU because of the distance (and cost). I would have loved to go, but time and $$$ impact us all.

I really don't get it. 2 shows would be just fine. I guess it is an emotional thing. The shows are to showcase and promote the hobby. I wonder when people are going to take 1 step back, and look at the larger picture..............................

Having it in ALabama would be really awesome because it'd give more of the Southerners a chance to bring and showcase their Farmalls, as well as give ALOT of people a chance to see how big this hobby is and hopefully help it grow. Believe me.....all of this stuff is just more known in the Midwest. Also, Alabama really doesn't have alot going on as far as shows, etc. like this so it would be a really awesome thing for them to be able to host.

My VOTE is in!

After what Chapter 32 did in O'12 changing officers just before the Roundup I would never go back to southern IL. That whole fiasco left a very bad taste in my mouth.

Well, why don't you get busy and let us know when and where it will be?

I really think you're the one who needs to step back and look at the bigger picture here. These big shows don't magically put themselves on. They are the result of years of planning and dedicated full time work from multiple people, plus the dedicated efforts of hundreds of volunteers during the show, not to mention the money that had to be shelled out up front before a single ticket was sold.

I run small shows every year for a different hobby. Nothing on the scale of a RPRU, and it's still a TON of work. I'm lucky in that I have a few dedicated people I can count on but it's still a struggle to find enough people to help out. There's always some that have all the ideas and sit there and tell you how you should do things, but when you try to get them to take charge, it's always "No, I couldn't..."

Why would that have anything to do with the show? I had no idea it happened and still had a great time at the show. Why did they do that? and Why would it be an issue?

Redpower number of times and state.
Ohio, PA., Iowa and Illinois 3 times. Indiana, Wisconsin, Mo., Tn., SD., Min., 2 times. Michigan 1 time. Mo. and Wisconsin have number 3 planed.

Hold on folks, I didn't mean to get an argument going, I live in NY and was able to go to the Ohio RPRU last year and absolutely loved it. With my job I can't take time off during this part of the year (if it were in July/August I'd be there every year!!!), especially when the upcoming shows are mainly during the week, so, I was just inquiring about the Northeast idea only because it seems that the overwhelming majority of shows are out west. I do understand that it's farm country out there but it's farm country here as well and wasn't sure about attendance or lack of interest in this part of the country, that's all. I like Tom's idea, maybe an east coast convention every year would allow those to enjoy the hobby that much more. Clearly it takes a great deal of work to put on this type of show and at this time I don't have the time or resources to create one but the idea is solid and I think a discussion about it would be prudent. ~Anthony

I doubt there will ever be two national shows. for starters the chapter hosting the show has to come up with 10K just for the insurance premium. that right there is becoming increasingly harder to get by with for just one national show let alone two

As I opened my post, I figured I would get some people going. These shows are a lot of work (yeah mkirsch, you might be surprised what I have participated in over the years, no offense taken on my end though). Insurance cost is borderline obscene. I guess I was commenting more on the animosity that arose between RPRU and RPSD. I listened to both sides of the argument, and it was all emotional.

2 different chapters did it this year. One was sponsored, one wasn't. both happened. Image what could happen if all the energy put into arguing about it, and getting one's knickers in a knot was applied to making both a big success. where ever the show is, there are going to be some unhappy people.

Oh well, I don't' expect to get a lot of positive on this subject, because people on both sides of the subject are pretty set in their opinion. damn shame though..........

Not saying it is here on this thread, but I love the inevitable posts about "When will RPRU be by me!?! It's not fair I always have to drive" It seems most of these people only want to attend/exhibit tractors and do ZERO work to help out with the show. IMO, if you want it in your state there is only one way to get it there...

It's no red power but The New a England chapter puts on a
good show called the power of the Red in August in a
Southern New Hampshire it a good show and gets bigger and
bigger every year

No offense but that's easy to say when you live in the middle of the country within easy driving distance to 90% of the shows. I'm not complaining that it's not here in NY, I was only wondering if there was a reason in the discrepancy east vs. west. My chapter is clear on the other side of the state almost four hours away, are states only allowed one chapter per state or can there be multiple?

If I would be surprised at what you've participated in Tom, then there should be absolutely no doubt in your mind why there aren't two Red Power Roundups. You should be AMAZED that there is even one.

Animosity is the name of the game. When a bunch of set-in-their-ways old men are involved in planning and putting on something like this, animosity is pretty much the only thing you can count on. Everyone has their own idea of how things should be, it's completely different from everyone else's, they just know that they are *RIGHT*, and everyone else is dumb as a box of rocks. Nobody is flexible. Everybody's skin is tissue-paper thin. Everything is a personal insult.

There's a reason why the show moves around. If the same club held it two years in a row, they would tear each other to pieces.

Missouri Chapter #1, and Kansas Chapter #3, would like to welcome all International Harvester collectors to the Historic Missouri State Fairgrounds, in Sedalia, MO, June 10-13 2015, for the 26th annual, National Red Power Round Up.

it would be nice to have one in the new england area, even new york would be good. its nice to have one all ih show here, some of you guys should come up and check it out.

Living here in Wisconsin, I have to say I`m pretty spoiled as far as access to Red Powers go.The vast majority of Red Powers were within a 10 hour drive or less from my house, not bad at all in my book. I can sympathize with the folks in the New England area wanting a show in their neck of the woods. I attended the 1st Bloomsburg show and was very impressed with the amount of IH tractors and implements. The fact of the matter is it`s very hard to get a show voted in out east when the majority of guys in the IHCC are from the midwest, pretty much the deck is stacked against the clubs out east. I see no problem with what the PA. chapter did having a show of their own out there. I would bet a vast majority of attendees of that show wouldn`t have went to Huron anyway, so I don`t think they were affecting attendance at Huron. I was involved with the 2008 Red Power in Madison and know how much work it is, so I don`t know how feasible it would be to find a club/clubs in New England area to have a Northeast regional show every year or even bi-annually, but maybe there is some merit in it to gauge interest in something like that ? The financial burden of the insurance cost for Red Powers as mentioned earlier is a major hurdle for clubs to address. I`m just throwing this idea out there, so please don`t bite my head off, but after all, we all have a common interest in the love of all things IH and if more people can be involved in it, so much the better in my book.

When is the last time a NE/E club has been voted down? It seems recently whoever steps up can host it without much of a fight.
