Farmall H Water Pump

Hello All,

I recently got a farmall H tractor. I installed a new water pump and got it running put there is a little drizzle of coolant coming out of a threaded week hole on the left side of the water pump. This is a brand new pump, don't understand why it is leaking? Should there be a plug in that hole. I know its threaded but the pump did not come with a plug. I am new to these tractors, any help would be great.

Thank you!

That hole should have a grease fitting in it. If you have the old pump take a look. They normally have a fitting with a cap on but any one will work. That passage goes into the impeller right between the two brass bushings. The packing is in front of the front bushing so just a little bit of grease every once in a while to help lube those bushing. There should also be another grease fitting in the hub to lube the ball bearing in the hub.

Pete,

Thank you for the info. I will have to find some grease fittings for it.

Is it normal for coolant to be leaking out of that hole though? I understand there Is suppose to be a fitting but if coolant is in there wont the coolant wash away the grease internally?

Also how frequent should it be greased?

Thanks,

Brandon

It is normal for coolant to be in that passage. Like I said, there are two bushings the impeller shaft rides on and there is a space between them. The packing that prevents leakage to the outside end of the shaft is behind that packing nut on front end. After you plug that hole the coolant will try to get past the next bushing and the packing. If it seeps a little tighten the packing nut some.

Pete,

I have been trying to locate grease zirk fittings for my water pump. I have not been able to locate fittings that thread into the pump. Do you happen to know what size I would need or where I could purchase them?

Thank you,

Brandon
