Hand Cranks for H and M--Difference

I have heard that the H and M Farmall use the same
hand crank. There is one advertised now that says it
is for and H or M. We have an H with two hand
cranks.
The shaft on the front of the H is 3/4 Inch
diameter. The shaft on the front of our M is 7/8
inch. The H crank will not fit. What would be your
explanation?

Someone broke the shaft, and welded the 7/8 shaft on it. I did have an H with a similar repair.

I own a 1940 M, a 1940 H, and a 1950 H. The same hand crank fits all of them.

MD through 450 diesel used a 7/8 shaft all the way to end instead of a reduced end like other fuels. Don't know if you have mixed parts or something else. Real early M where a little different on the parts but can't remember if the shaft size was different on those.
Can't remember for sure but think I have a F-20 crank that will work for the 7/8 shaft other than a diesel one.
