Farmall Cub w/ woods mower

Question:
When cutting with my woods belly mower I have a problem with it bogging down and even quitting when in forward gear. I have to back up and cut it again. When I cut in reverse it cuts great and does not lose power. Why is that? And what can I do about it?
 
check your blade height adjustment. when the blade is to the front of the deck, it should be about 1/2 inch lower than the rear of the same blade at the back of the deck.
 
Like otherpost said about having the blade closer at the front. How tall is the stuff you are cutting and how short 3in is the recomended height. Blades are turning the rite direction as you probably have left hand blades for the Cub.
 
how tall is the stuff your cutting and what gear are you cutting in. as others have said check your blade height. I think id put it in 1st gear and raise the deck a little at a time to see if it makes a difference. also there is a slip clutch in the mower deck it should click when you step on the clutch with the mower engaged. could be gummed up its easy enough to take apart but it shouldn't matter if your going forward or back.
 
Another vote for mower deck "attitude"

The deck should be lower in the front than in the back. If it is lower in the back, you will be cutting the grass with the front of the mower and then again in the back. If you have it that way, that poor little cub is working twice as hard.
 
as they said, also if the grass is to deep you may need to cut half or third the width of the deck, my A has trouble in thick or deep grass also, stumper

Thanks for your help, I have raised the back of the mower deck and it cuts much better and doesn't bog down. It's good to know that for novices like me, there is a resource like this one to go to.
