560d with 460d head

Hello all,

We"re looking at getting a Farmall 460d. The owner states he keeps blowing head gaskets. He says a few years ago he put a 560d long block in it and used a 460 head, and was told this is why the gasket keeps failing.

So, would a 460 head on a 560 cause the gasket to blow, or are there different issues we should be looking for?

Thanks

No, same parts, there is a serial break, just smaller valves on early engines, same head gasket for all sizes by cubic inch, D236 in 460, D282 in 560, also D301 in combines. Simplest thing you can do is get .5 x 6 grade 8 bolts to replace the original head bolts from a quality supplier & remove the first 2 threads from each block hole, the blocks tend to distort around each bolt.

Yes, 460/560/660 will interchange, 656/706/756 will not because of combustion chamber & valve angle, piston crown change, but same head gasket.

not likely, its because the head or even the block needs to be resurfaced would be the first thing to check on. check with straight edge and feeler gauges.
then torque properly and retorque after running for an hr. and re -adjust valves.
