Farmall A exhaust lift

We bought a wartime (1944) Farmall A with a vacuum lift. It does not work (of course) but whatt should I be looking at to start????? Thanks

The lift works with exhaust pressure routed to a cycl mounted any where the implement needed for operation. You should start at the manifold and check the lever that closes the flow to the muffler and routes it thru a check valve assy by the oil filter there is an outlet on that check assy and exhaust should come out there when the lever by the throttle is pulled back.
