Cub Lo-Boy 154 shifter

I know the loboy is IH, but I didn"t see an IH site so here is my question. I went to look at a mid-70"s IH Cub Lo-Boy 154 this morning. Nice tractor and the price is right.
The only thing wrong with it is he only used 1st and Reverse and never the higher forward gears! So now it won"t go in the higher gears. He said, the rails and shifting fork must be out of alignment and at most the fork may need to be replaced! What do you guys think easy quick repair or not?
Thanks GT65

I just made a deal on one the other day but havent even picked it up yet so Im certainly no Loboy expert... but I buy and sell on kijiji quite alot and his story would worry me... it doesnt work because it hasnt been used? I would consider it as needing a tranny and pay accordingly. No way to know if its an easy fix really... but that depends alot on your experience, I would call it easy, but finding another one for parts might not be.

If the rails or forks were out of alignment, the tractor would not move PERIOD.

Have you tried it? What does it feel like?

The Lo-Boy 154 has the same basic transmission as a Farmall Cub, so the shifter cover comes off with 8 or 10 bolts, and you can see right down inside. The hardest part is getting the sheet metal off to get at it on a 154.

I doubt it needs a whole transmission, but without knowing more about what the tractor is/isn't doing when you try to shift into 2nd or 3rd, the best anyone can do is tell you to take it apart, see what's wrong, and fix it.
