Cub clutch problems

I recently had the engine rebuilt in my 1950 Farmall Cub. The machine shop surfaced .005 off the flywheel. The machine shop visually looked at the pressure plate and clutch and said both were ok. The clutch worked perfectly, before. I installed everything back into the tractor, but the transmission grinds terribly when I try to put into gear. I made sure the clutch disk was turned in the proper direction, and the fingers on the pressure plate were measured at 1 3/16" of an inch, from the back of the pressure plate to the bottom edge of the fingers. Now it seems that the clutch does not stop the transmission shaft from turning. The clutch petal "feels" good. The prior owners may have had the flywheel surfaced before, as the engine had previously been rebuilt. My question is it possible that too much material has been ground off the flywheel? If so is there any adjustments I can make to the pressure plate that would help my situation, or are there any measurements that I can take to tell? Do I need to be looking for a new flywheel? Thanks in advance for everyone's help.

does it run and drive good, just a problem shifting. no clutch slipping under a load. do you have free play on clutch pedal?

Yes, it runs and drives good once it is in gear. You can crank the tractor in gear and it runs and drives good. Once you depresses the clutch it is near impossible to get into gear. You can feel the transmission shaft spinning with the gear shift lever. I have not put the tractor under a load since I reinstalled the engine. It does have free play in the petal. Do you think it could be something in the shifting fork in the transmission? Also, I did replace the PTO shaft seal and put in a new PTO shaft gasket. But you cannot engage the PTO with the tractor running.

Did you do anything with the clutch pilot bushing [251266 R1]? Sounds like the bushing is hanging on the input shaft. When that happens, the release bearing, disc and pressure plate do their jobs, but the shaft continues to turn with the engine. A burr on the shaft, or one on the bushing when assembling the shaft to the clutch could cause this.

Just a suggestion...was this even checked?

Your clutch finger adjustment should be 1-1/4". It's 1/16" short, and the clutch is not releasing completely.
