Farmall BN with Woods belly mower

I have a new-to-me 47 BN with a Woods L59 (I think) mower. Belt was slipping with idler pullies fully at tightest setting. I moved the mower forward one set of holes on the mounting frame. Mowed for 30 minutes with no apparent belt slippage but belt was very warm or maybe even hot. Drive pulley was hot also. I this normal? I never had one of these before.

I have an A with the L59. I have been running it for about 8 years. I mow about 4 acres a week and often some high stuff.
The only time it gets hot is when I am in the really high grasses. I think I have adjusted the belt about 4 times and I still have half of the adjustment remaining.

Thanks jed. Where are you adjusting the belt tension? Are you using the two idler pulley's for that? Do you have an idler pulley between the PTO pulley and the bottom idler? I think mine may have had some "rework" done to it.

Dave --I have 2 idlers under the pto. One is on the belt going to the deck and the other is on the belt returning from the deck to the pto.

You might have the belt a little tight. Or maybe a little loose.

Truthfully I never thought to check how warm my belt pulleys got when I had the Woods mower mounted. I would expect some heat because there's always a little friction there. How hot is too hot? Dunno, other than if the belt doesn't disintegrate, it can't be too hot.

I have an L306 under a Farmall H. It is impossible to get the belt TOO tight. It needs to be absolutely as tight as you can get it, and then just a little tighter. And yes, the belt still slips and squeals if the grass is too tall or heavy.
