Pulling installing dry sleaves Farmall IH 400

A few weeks ago I posted about coolant in oil on a 400 Farmall. I removed oil pan and done a coolant pressure test. I wasn't seeing where the coolant was coming from until I rolled the engine over then coolant would leak around number three piston onto the shop floor. I knew at that point if coolant would leak past the rings with 20 lbs psi it needs a complete overhaul. Pulled head off and seen four cracks in the head and a bad headgasket. So, we're going to get a All States major inframe kit and a reman head. I was going to weld a bead down the inside of sleaves for removal but what about installing sleaves how do you guys do that ??? Thanks a lot !! Is there any thing else I NEED to know BEFORE installing the rods on NEW pistons ?

I made a jig that fits over some of the head studs and uses a small bottle jack to press dry sleeves into place. Another option is to stick the sleeves in the freezer over night and often they will drop into place then. You really should replace the rod bushing too since you are going to all this work. The rod bushings have to be installed and then honed to fit the piston pins before installing the pistons.

Kirk, can you provide pictures of the said puller ? I know what
you mean and can build one myself with no problems. I was
thinking of the same said puller but with a "cyl fit" washer on
the bottom of sleave turned with my lathe to catch the bottom
lip of sleave ? Should work for sure. Thanks
