regular valve guide removal

I just unstuck a 1931 Farmall regular and am getting it cleaned up to reassemble and start. Valves are now removed and I would like to polish the ports in the head as there is a lot of flakey rust and crap inside.
How difficult are the guides to R & R?

I believe the original guides might have been cast into the block, replacement would involve boring them out and pressing new ones in. If they have been replaced, you will need to press the old ones out, press new ones in, and ream to fit.

The valve guides are removable, the head needs to be placed in a press and the guides pressed out. They will likely be hard to remove and you may break some trying to remove them. New guides are available and not very expensive either. The Fordson House will probably have them.

I have had pretty good luck putting a 3/8ths bolt with flat washers and nut through the guide, the washers just fit the bore in the head , and drive them out with a hammer and a big brass drift. If you buy new replacements, be aware of what they are made out of, originals were cast , some of the new ones now are steel and need to be reamed or bored out to fit the valve stem , and make them sloppy or they will stick when the engine gets hot , they seem to expand more than the originals.

Yup, guides drive (Or press) out. Once you do that though, replace them. pressing or driving them out will distort them. New guides are available from Fordson house as indicated and also Rice Equipment.
