Super C with 240 Governor

I have been having problems with my governor on my Super C. I was told that someone had but a 240 governor on my Super C. The problem I think is that it still has the Super C Governor Rod on it that goes from the governor arm to the Carburetor. The parts numbers of the rod are different from a Super C and Farmall 240. The rod on my Super C is about 10 inches long that I believe is to short for the 240 Governor. Can someone tell me the length of the Rod for a Farmall 240 Tractor ? And would the Rod be the same for a Farmall 240 tractor, and a International 240 Utility Tractor ? Also when I installed the missing spring on the Governor Control Rod, the engine rev's wide Open, even with the control lever at idle.

You need to unhook the pin in the clevis with engine off open throttle. Now hold carb open and adjust the clevis so the pin will go in. Its possible the 240 mite have a longer rod but you will know when you do the adjustment i described. It will not be hard to make a new one if the present one is too short.

I went out and measured my Super C. It is 10" long just like you show in your drawing if that is any help. Mine does not have the oil cap on it.

GOVERNOR ROD NEEDS ADJUSTMENT ONLY. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE IN A SUPER C AND A 240 GOVENOR. YOUR ROD WILL WORK. JUST DO AS A PREVIOUS POST SUGGESTED, ON THE ADJUSTMENT.

I have both 12.4x and f240 I think the rod from hand throttle is different didn't measure but the 240 rod doesn't have springs it is just bent in a L , mine may not be correct , but that is what I have and it works

If nothing else, Gene's description of the timing/adjustment process will also allow you to figure out the correct length for the throttle rod.

Again:

1. Engine off. Wide open throttle.
2. Remove pin from clevis end of throttle rod.
3. Hold carburetor in wide open position.
4. Adjust clevis until pin slides through everything easily.

You might be able to get enough by adjusting, or at least you can see how much shorter the rod needs to be. A new rod can be fabricated from a piece of steel from a hardware store pretty easily, if all else fails.

Gene, was just wondering, did any of the Super C's have the oil cap on the governor case? Mine looks just like the one in the bottom diagram without the cap. It is also a 1953 with a distributor. Thanks.
