The governor bumper spring will not stay on the rock shaft piece when I screw it in. Soon after it makes contact it wants to twist off to one side or the other. I have the governor housing off so I can see what"s happening when I screw it into place. I have cleaned everything good and the spring is not broken. Is there a retainer or something that the spring is supposed to make contact with to keep it in place?

There must be a broken piece of spring thats why it wobbles as it doesent seat deep enough. Getting broken springs out of that screw can be a problem. I have some screws that are clean and the spring will seat like its supposed to. I can find new springs at local hardware store just like original i make them the same length as stock and they work just fine.
