SMTA hood vs SM hood

The SMTA hood is 39 5/8 long.
Regular M hood is 38 3/8 long.
I believe the super M and straight M hoods are the same length. If not I am sure someone will correct me.

MD,SMD SMTAD and SMTA use front upper bolsters that move the radiator and steering posts forward.
When bolted to the same length frame rails this
necessitates the longer hoods compared to M and SM tractors. Steering worm shafts are also shorter on the M and SM and a few other parts are different.
If you would remove a M gas engine and all parts forward of the clutch housing and install in front of a SMTA clutch housing a M hood would work. Or a M front bolster and related M parts ahead of a SMTA engine a M hood would work.

I've got one of those SMTA bolsters. 50 bucks firm. It would have to be local pickup here in south Texas. That suckers heavy. My M came with it, and I have since exchanged it for an original M bolster. A direct opposite of your situation.

If you don't care about the date codes a 400 or 450 gas bolster is the same. Diesels also but they have different hand crank parts. Steering worm gear from the same tractors also works. Steering worm shaft support casting at rear is also different between a M and SMTA, but maybe worn enough that its used both ways. Longer radiator support rod from 400 and 450 also works. SMTA gas used a different radiator fan shrould. If remember correct a SMTA or W 6 series is all that is the same.
