Farmall H carb numbers

Where are the carb numbers located on a Farmall H? There's some large raised numbers on the outside of the lower body, but the numbers don't match to anything I'm looking at for carb numbers. I'm trying to find a carb kit to rebuild this as its starting to leak quite a bit.

There have been a few topics about the H carburetor in recent weeks (mine included). I think the general consensus is that any of the kits will work for either the 50981 or 45108 (originally Kerosene).

If it leaks really bad, just take lower half of the carburetor off (gently) and check the float and needle valve. The float could either be leaking or need to be adjusted. If the the float is still on the top half of the carb, measure from the carb body to the float. I forget the exact measurement at the low point (2-1/8" maybe?), but the high point is - per the manual - 1-27/32". You may have to play with the little tab on the float to get it right. If you gently bend it towards the needle valve, that should raise the float level.

Also clean out the needle valve really good... lots of carb cleaner and compressed air should help.

try that before you buy a kit... I thought I needed a kit and could have realistically gotten away with just a good cleaning and a new float, since mine was shot.

I've had to re-tighten the screws a couple times
because the carburetor halves get loose, and then
suck air. Kept me from starting the tractor at one
point. Tightened the screws and it started right
up. So the gasket between the two body halves has
some damage to it. I'll need to adjust the float
because there's some times where hand starting
causes it to flood out. (I was having to hand
start due to problems with the starter, starter
has been rebuilt and works now). I'm also getting
some leaks in the upper portion, and the governor
tubes. Though, the governor tubes are leaking oil,
not fuel.

Thanks for the info.

Speaking of floats, I just recently had to change
the one on my late grandpa's John Deere A for not,
floating. Kept flooding the tractor out trying to
start it. Put a new float in, and started right
up.

Always nice when the fixes are easy.

Glad you've gotten it going somewhat. The 3 screws that hold the Carb together should have lock washers on them... mine was missing one and I found it loose after awhile...

Good luck,
