Farmall h piston size

Question is what years had a 3 3/8 and what had a 3 7/16? Was there a serial number break or was it just random? Of is a 3 7/16 an over size? Any help is appreciated

I have either repaired or parted out about 10 or 11 Hs and I have never seen a 3-3/8" piston. I know they were stock but they must have all been swapped out over the past 70 years. The bore in the block is the same, the 3-7/16" just uses a thinner sleeve in the bore to accommodate the larger pistons.

All H Farmalls were 3 3/8 piston case iron piston.. Even the original power packs with aluminum pistons were 3 3/8th. Then, well after end of production the thin wall sleeve was introduced,(probably because after market suppliers were already doing so} and had the 3 7/16th piston. Ironically, the Diesel engines used aluminum pistons before the gasoline engines did.

Interesting, im looking for some used pistons and am having a time finding 3 7/16 pistons. Mine has 3 7/16 cast aluminum
