1959 Farmall Cub Spark Plug ??

The spark plugs that were in the cub when i got it were champion D18Y, are these correct or should i use another number for mowing?? thanks

Over on FarmallCubdotcom that question gets almost as many answers as what oil to use. D-18's are OK but a little hotter plug would be a Champion D-21 or AC 386. A hotter plug is good for moderate use and also helps in case there is a little oil usage on an older engine.

yes they are correct... and hotter than D 16's, and have a longer reach.
ihc basically uses the same plug in most gas engines with a few heat range differences. (1950's)

If you're parading/puttering with the tractor, you want a hotter plug.

If you're working it on a mower, you want a cooler plug.

D18Y is about the middle of the road. A good place to start.

The nice thing is spark plugs are cheap and you can experiment. If you find that the plugs are fouling with the D18's, you can go up to D21's. If you find the tractor seems to run a little hot, drop back to D15's or D16's.
