Tractor Run Better When Cold Outside

A friend has a Farmall 130 that runs better when it is colder outside. He can make several passes with the rear scrape blade before it want to cut off. Rather than when it is warm outside he can any make a couple of passes.

What would be causing this issue?

Sounds to me like an electrical component (condenser or coil) breaking down when it warms up. When it acts up, he should immediately check how strong the spark is, compare it to what the spark is like before a cold start. If the spark is bad, check deeper into ignition system. If spark is OK, look somewhere else.

It shouldn't want to cut off no matter how many passes he makes with the scraper blade.

First off how does it run? It should sound smooth like a sewing machine, not lumpy and choppy like a Harley Davidson.

It probably needs a tuneup. Spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points, condenser, coil.

when you describe the issue you said before it wants to cut out does it die or is he saving it by using the choke

If it is 12volt conversion, see if the coil has been changed to 12v (or a ballast resistor used) if not the coil is probably overheating from running on excess voltage. If it is correct, it could still be a bad coil. Feel it with your hand when it cuts out. It should be warm, not hot. If it is difficult to hold your hand on it, replace it. Jim
