BN oil pump

We have a BN that when it warms up it has good oil pressure until it goes to idle. Then there is very little, less than 5#. I took the oil pump apart and sanded down the pumps cover plate it had grove marks in from the gears. I put it back together with a new gasket and the pump won't turn. If I loosen the 4 bolts ,it will turn but it is still tight. The bolts aren't much more than finger tight. Can I make a thicker gasket to get the clearance ? If so how thick?

Paper thin gaskets are available fot the pump from caseih. Making them from tough resin paper is also possible. The clearance is .001 to .0005" (not much!) Jim
