F-12 transmission oil

I am sure this question and answers are out here, but I cannot find them. What transmission oil for my F-12?

I am restoring the tractor. Axles were out, new seals, felts, gaskets.

Do I have to use hytran? I don't think I do.

Any help is appreciated

The old recomendation was 160 weight, more or less the
same as the old 600W (not weight) called for in car rear
ends up thru the 30"s. If you use 90 weight , plan on it
marking its territory. Modern gear oil is not designed to
work the same as the old sticky stuff was in the high
pressures experienced between the teeth of straight cut
gears. The modern oils will function fine for a long long
time given the limited use of these old tractors but they will
leak easier and you"ll notice alot more gear noise. The old
grades of oil are still available but can be hard to find. Do
not use hytrans oil.

most parts stores and farm stores around here also have 85w140 and that's what I use, it doesn't leak out as fast as the 80w90 does.

I use straight 140 in my f series tractors. Helps to make them run quieter and minimize leaks. 80-90 is too light imho.

the regular 80-90 is more than good. don't worry about seal leakage as you have replaced them. those seals will hold any weight of oil as that's what a seal is for. modern gear oil has additives for sticking to the gear teeth and is way way better than that old thick 140 stuff from 60-70 years ago. that's why it has to be thick so it stay on the gears, but sure don't need it nowadays.
