H Draw bar Capacity

Wanting to pull a dry fertilizer spreader with my H. How much tongue weight will the drawbar carry in the field safely(1000 lbs, 2000 lbs) less, more? It does not have the swinging drawbar, just a plate bolted on.

It will carry more than the front will hold down. Providing you don"t have a bunch of front weights on it.

Most fert carts are balanced fairly well.

Use small loads and you should be okay.

The closest thing I could compare it to would be a 2 wheeled lowboy hay trailer, with about 100 small squares stacked on it. Did that many, many times with a Farmall H. Never even had a thought about over-loading the drawbar.

Without the swinging part, the U-shape has to take both the horizontal and vertical components of the load. That reduces its capacity by about 1/2.

you will have more capacity the way you are set up now. the plate spreads the load a little on the drawbar. the drawbar will break because of the hammering that the swinging drawbar will give it and it's all concentrated right in the middle, the weakest part. forty years ago I spread fertilizer with a super h. got stuck, never broke the drawbar.

The center part where the three holes are is a weak point. Broke one there on an M, and an H. They will handle some what of a good load, but won't take much of an impact while carrying that load such as hitting a ditch or hole, or something like that.
