Anyone else admit to having one of these?

Hate to admit it but I did have one in the early 80's. Didn't take me very long to get rid of it either. A real piece of crap.

Still a handful in this area pulling sprayers, running feed wagons, moving hay, baling hay, and blowing snow. The guys that still have them seem to like them.

I am obviously ignorant on these models. What were the problems with them that made people sell them off? These were articulating right?

School me.

Would love to have a 3588 or a 4366 . Dead or alive i have tools and know how to use them. Did have and 1805 Massey for about six months along with a set of 880 seven bottoms . It sure did make short work of my spring plowing . I did on one evening what would have taken me five evenings with the 706 and four bottoms . Biggest field plowed was a little over ten acres and the smallest was 3.2 acres . The sound of that 3208 Cat was awesome it played with seven and i had wished that i would have put the eight bottom on it . Borrowed a keewanee 24 foot hyd fold disc off a jockey friend that had just come in on the tuck from In. and jokingly told him that i should take that up to the farm to shine the blades up before the sale , he told me to get my pickup over here while he had the tong hooked to the loader tractor . Here again one eveing and all my corn ground was DONE . the bigger disc with the harrow on the back made for one pass discing where had i used my 370 it would have been two passes . Took me the whole weekend to plant it all with a 4 row planter . Total money i had in the Massey and plows including transportation was 6450 bucks . I gave a whoppen 200 bucks for the 880 eight bottoms with the eighth bottom not on the plow and the were RESETS When i sold the Massey i broke even but it was fun . Only repairs to the Massey was some brake fluid three batterys and a junkyard alt. It sold to a BTO up north of me as he farmed a whoppen 163 acres .

You either love them or you hate them.

The haters think they're a 325HP Steiger, and try to use them that way. Then it's a piece of junk because it doesn't perform like a 325HP Steiger.

There are a lot more wear points, because the engine is in the front half and the transmission is in the back half, and one of the drive axles is back in the front half. You've got a drive shaft and U-joint for the engine crankshaft, then the front wheel driveshaft comes back the other way with another U-joint.

Yep...we had two of them...a 3588 and a 6588. Good tractor for what they were designed to do. What they were not were 4 wheel drives that were to compete with the big Deeres and Steigers of the day.
We ran them as instructed...no duals...no water...no weights and kept the tire pressure adjusted to avoid crow hopping. The issue we had with the 35 related to the hinge and issues with the hoses that would wear and blow.
The 65 though was a very a good tractor. No issues with it. It was a big improvement over the 35.
Most people who had trouble with them did not operate them appropriately and placed them into service in areas they were not designed to do.

Love that photograph and it's composition. Calender material. A little bit more saturation on that red, and that would do the trick. Evan though we are seeing a lot of heavy iron there, the scene still looks pastoral and serene. Those are very well kept grounds. Something to admire.

Best regards

Everybody around here traded theirs for FWD's, claimed they got more work done after they had traded them off.

Agonair and mkirsh, nailed it.I'v had this one for 24 years with no major issues, I only run duals in the spring for flotation, the pump is at stock setting and get along fine. We have a 7120 mfd running at the same hp and it won't out preform the 2+2, but the power shift is nice though. So until the old beast has a major failure it will have a home. Mike

Never owned one but spent a lot of seat time in one. Really like how they worked in the fields. They were good tractors to us. Had a 35 and the newer 6788. If I could dream up a use for one would not hesitate to buy one. It's just in that size range of to big for lots of work but still too small for heavy work.
