i found this while looking thru a old photo album, this is on the family farm in ill, probably early 1960's, the M was the biggest tractor we had untill around 1969, and as much as i hate to admit it, thats me, on the M, already figured out where the starter was, and im sure grandpa didnt let me get to that lol

nice looking m, and what a proud operator!! the large oil filter looks like a 42 or earlier according to the serial number break, does have the small starting tank, so either a kerosene or distillate, and a mag. but, i have a 48 m and that has the large filter on it, no telling what happened in the past. great pic!

this m is a 1940, grandpa bought it brand new then, before that he farmed with horses, the harnesses are still hanging on the barn wall inside last time i looked, been 10 years but there probably still there

My Grandfather dairy farmed with an M , an H & a Super H. My cousin & I both still have scarred shins from using them as Monkey bars. I remember one day he actually "accidently" hit the starter on the M , and it lurched forward an inch or so.
You talk about two small boys ejecting from that platform !!!
I seriously doubt my Uncle would have left it in gear, we probably caused that, but we gave that "live" haunted tractor a wide berth for quite a few days.
