Bought a complete char lynn ps for my M (torque generator, pump, reservoir, etc). I know I will have questions about installing this since I'm not a tractor expert. Does anyone out there have an installation manual or instructions for this?
Thanks

The 2 photos below show how the resvr. is mounted. You can see the ell bracket how it's fastened under one of the up front head bolts. That's what the resvr. hangs on to. That ell bracket is a very simple fab if you don't have one. Just be sure the upright part is curved to match the curvature of the side of the resvr. for a nice snug fit as you see in the second photo.

Send me an email - I can take pics of my steering. My M came with all if the parts not functioning and I got it done. I learned a lot. I know the ins and outs now, that's for sure!

Thanks for the replies and pics. I'll send you an email glennster. After your reply rustyfarmall I took a closer look at the crank pulley setup on my M. Interestingly I have two unused pullies on the crank in front of the large crank pulley. I wonder if I can use one of these (assuming they line up w/pump pulley). They look a little smaller in diameter than the pulley that came with the charlynn which I guess means that if I used one of the two the pump would turn at lower rpm. Don't know how that would affect ps operation. Any thoughts?

A smaller pullet will result in the pump turning slower, which will reduce the output and performance, but maybe it won't be enough difference to be noticeable? If one of those pulleys does line up with the pump pulley, I think I would be tempted to try it.

The previous owner had disabled the unit on my M in years past. It wasn't until I got it working again that I found out why.
1. The pump shaft had a lot of end play and the seal was wore out causing fluid to leak out and blown back by the fan onto the motor. That was pretty messy.

2. The torque motor was not properly centered up with the front part of the steering shaft creating a knuckle, causing another leak, dribbling down on the valve cover. Another messy situation.

Here's how it looked after getting it working again.

You can see in this photo the front shaft not parallel with the torque motor causing the knuckle and leak.

So that's just a couple of things to be looking out for. I have a few more pictures if you want to see more. HTH

Best regards

There isn't an email button at the bottom of your post. Maybe I'm missing something.

I'm kind of going through the same thing myself right now, except I am putting it together piece-meal, using all new components. When done, I'll still have way less money into it than what a used, full kit would have cost.

The first thing I learned is that the process is NOT as easy and straight-forward as most of us are lead to believe. That pulley that fits onto the engine front crankshaft pulley will NOT just slip in there. I had to drain the radiator, remove the hoses, and then remove the 8 bolts that hold the front bolster to the frame. Using a prybar, I then had to wiggle the bolster away from the engine 2 to 3 inches, and THEN the pulley just slipped right in there. I used my splitting stands to support the tractor so the bolster could be wiggled out.
