F30 clutch adjustment

Hello,

its that time of year again to pull out the tractors and get"em going. My F30 Clutch Pressure plate is currently shimmed with 3 washers in all 6 bolts spots in order to keep the fingers from being completely pushed in. This is the only way that I can get the clutch to work. With out the shims the fingers are pushed all the way in and there is no movement or play with the clutch plate which means I have no clutch.

I know that this is not the correct procedure but now am wanting to do it properly. How do I adjust the pressure plate so I can ensure finger movement? Is there any special tools needed? I am pretty good at fixing things but have never had to adjust the clutch yet.

Thanks

Alan

The fingers #10 on this diagram are adjustable. Remove the pressure plate. There are three holes in the pressure plate and cover that allow you to insert bolts and release the tension, do that. The actuating rods the fingers pull on are adjustable. On the friction side the adjusters look like a big flathead screw. Tuning the adjusters clockwise will shorten the adjusters which moves the fingers toward the throwout bearing. Counter clockwise will lengthen them and pull the fingers in. This is touchy work as all the fingers must be exactly set the same and the distance from the flywheel face must be in spec. It may require multiple removal and installs of the pressure plate to get it correct as the measurements are taken fully installed, but they are adjusted uninstalled.

Unlike later tractors (which I'm sure someone is gonna throw in some vast knowledge of the H or M procedure which is wrong) The F series clutch fingers must be set to the exact specs from the flywheel face (B in spec chart). A spring is used on the clutch rod to hold the pedal to the transmission and the rod is then adjusted to give the proper gap (C in spec chart) between the fingers and the throwout bearing.
All the specs needed are in this chart.

Can you post those pictures from the service manual of the clutch adjustment specs again? I am to the point of needing to adjust my F30 pressure plate after rebuilding it and relining the clutch disc. I have a copy of the service manual that contains all that information, but I will be darned if I can figure out what happened to it.
