5288 low range

5288, low range does not work. High, med and reverse work fine. When it's put in low there is no grinding, does not move, nothing. Linkage checks out okay. I know I can look at the reverse, low shift fork and find out more. Just looking for opinions.

Sorry i can not help ya on that sires tractor maybe Pete or Owen will show up as they know them . I was never able to afford to buy any of them dead or alive to learn on . and i will not even try and lead you astray , but one thing for sure it is going to cost you .

That set-screw holding the fork had an issue with working loose. Usually ended up with it not going into reverse tho.

I"d sure check that first; especially so, if the sentry light isn"t coming on.

High, medium, and low speeds are constantly engaged gears. They are located in the front of the center section in front of the main clutch. They work the same as the high side of an hydraulic TA. The Sentry (computer) monitors the pressures to insure that the clutch pack you are shifting to does not engage until the pressure drops off in the currently engaged clutch pack. It also maintains enough pressure in the current clutch pack retains enough pressure to keep the tractor from stalling before the next clutch pack can take the load.

If the tractor has not had the transmission updates the most common problem is going to be the inner tabs are worn off the lined disks in the clutch pack allowing them to slip on the gear splines.

Sounds like you will have to take the cover off the side of range transmission to take a look. Low and reverse do work together on same rail but I think that two piece (I think it is two piece) fork can mess you up also.
