It took a while to find the housing so I could put a distribuor verticaly mounted on my M. Some wondered why I would want to replace the magneto anyway. The M has a hydraulic pump running off the cam gear and then comes the vertical distributor housing. I was going to use a IHC dist (one that seems to fit all models), but the gear is wrong. THe drive gear is a worm and doesn't mesh with the dist gear. Is it possible that these verticals were intended for use with a Delco and not IHC?
 
I have two m farmalls with vertical distributors and they are both Delcos. I have an H,it has a vertical distributor but it is IH.

You need the delco distributor.
