original repair manual vs. I.T. shop manual

The I&T manual is a good supplement to the IH manual. However, I would not make the I&T manual my primary manual as it assumes that you have experience working on tractors so the explanations are rather brief. But, the IH manuals also assume that but are more detailed. I always buy both plus the Operators and Parts manuals. If you buy as little as possible you will find that you are missing some information.

CNKS has it exactly right; each manual will have 95% of the info, but each one"ll be a different 95%. Get all you can find and even then, you may have to buy additional clutch manual, transmission manual,,etc.

Just some advice from a guy who had never worked on a tractor before, buy ALL of them, they're not that expensive and when you need it will be right there at your finger tips. Get the I.T., IH, operators, parts manual, and any individual manuals you can find for the tractor. Binder books has many, this site offers some, check ebay for some ok copies. There is nothing worse than trying to do something then realizing that if you only had the "hydraulic manual," or the "clutch manual" you could have your project completed because they offer the one missing piece of information. I tore down the entire front end of my M with no experience with the help of those manuals and some help from some great people on this site. Best of luck, ~Anthony

Neither is going to give you step-by-step instructions like a Walmart particle board entertainment center, so if you're expecting that you'll be sorely disappointed.
