IH474 3-Pt Question

Hello, I just bought my first tractor. Until now, I have just borrowed my uncle's JD or a neighbor's NH. My IH474 has a category 2 3-pt and when I bought it it was missing the top pin and link. So off to Tractor Supply I go and get the cat2 top link, top pin and lynch pin. I get home and where the top link mounts to the tractor I have a problem that I just don't understand. When looking at the pic there are two mounting points (upper and lower). The holes on the right side fit the cat2 pin perfectly. The holes on the left side would only accept something the size of a cat1 pin. In other words, the cat2 pin will slide in from the right but it's too big to go through the hole on the left to secure the link. What gives?

I was in a pinch so I took a concrete stake, cut it off and put my pins in it to 'make' a top link pin.

Thank you for any wisdom.

The correct pin is stepped . I have a 574. takes the same pin. I think the way its set up you can use either a cat 1 or cat 2 top link. May have yo go to IH to get the coccect pin.

Hi, the 74 series tractors had a special pins for
the top link and a top link that had a cat 1 pin
hole on one end and a cat 2 pin hole on the other
end. So you just reversed the top link to hook to
a cat 2 or cat 1 implement. The cat 2 pin had a
step down to cat 1 and 2 holes for pins, 1 to use
in the top link bracket and one to use when
connected to a cat 2 implement. The cat 1 pin had
a step up to fill the cat 2 hole in the top link
bracket when attached to a cat 2 implement.

(quoted from post at 11:27:07 03/28/14) Thank you very much! Makes finding parts much easier when you know what you are looking for.
Have a good one!
My IH454 is the same way and it also looks like you can reverse the lift arms to get cat 1 or cat 2 attachment holes although I haven't done it.

Ok, so if anyone else happens to be looking for the same info, the two part numbers are:
CAT2 Top Link Pin: 1536396C1
CAT1 Top Link Pin: 1328192C3

The links are to a UK site that had helpful measurement info.

I called the local CaseIH dealer and they wanted about $45 for the CAT2 pin and $25 for the CAT1 pin.

There's an Ebay auction or two that I could get them both with shipping for around $25.

I called around and for $15, I can take two of my current regular CAT2 pins down to a machine shop and the guy will lathe them to match the OEM pins.

Thanks again for all the info!
