Adapter for Replacement Oil Gauge

I'm replacing a failed oil pressure gauge with a non-reproduction style gauge on a '53 SM. The old gauge is original with a threaded female fitting. The new gauge has a threaded male fitting that's not removable.

Will I be able to find an adapter in a plumbing supply store that allows me to connect the oil line with original fitting to the new gauge? Or is my best bet to cut the old supply line fitting off and add a new one?

I have the new gauge with me, but the old gauge is on the tractor (90 miles away), so I'm not sure of the fitting size on the supply line.

Take the old & new gauges along to your local auto parts store. They will have brass pipe fittings. You will probably need a pipe coupling could be 1/8 pipe. Here's a pic of a pipe coupling that has female threads. Hal

Post pictures of the old and new gauges. You may need a tube fitting so you can connect the oil line to your new gauge. Hal

CaseIH dealers can get the correct fitting so you can use original fitting that is on pipe. Parts stores will have conventional fittings and you will have to cut off pipe. Works either way though.

Is the original oil line flared copper tubing? You will need to know what size the tubing is, if it has copper tubing it may be 1/4". Hal
PS: They make a brass fitting that has female pipe threads on one end and flared male threads for copper tubing on the other end.

Original oil pressure line is steel, with a compression fitting.

Since Rusty stated they have used steel tubing using a compression nut you need to remove the old oil pressure gauge. Then your local parts store can give you the correct fitting for your new gauge. I would pull the rotor so no one can start the tractor. Make sure you don't lose or misplace it. Hal
