Is there an easy way to get the thermostat out of the housing on a 281 motor? thing is stuck in the casting,(broke off a utility knife blade in it)! Any tricks. Thanks, Rusty

utility knife is wrong tool. use screwdriver or something you can get in there with. cant be that stuck. if all fails then you could unbolt the housing from head and give it a smack from that direction with something that works.

When rebuilding the 281 on my 450, the thermostat would not come out, had to destroy it. New are available.

Is the THM 28 from napa a good replacment?

Bought mine from TEMCO. Remove the old one first.
This site has them also. Check YT.
