I don't know how you would do that. 56 was made mid 60's to early to mid 70's if memory serves me. Then the Cyclos showed up sometime in the 70's. I just don't know that they have year data on them like the tractors. I have run into a lot of guys still using those old 56 planters and doing OK with them. Getting harder to find without all the enclosed parts rusted out. Heck, every Cyclo 400 I have seen recently was rusted out badly.

I agree with Dave, it's hard to pinpoint the year on a cornplanter. I remember putting them together, the early ones had round seed cans and metal fertilizer boxes. The later ones had square seed boxes and fiberglass fertilizer boxes. I hope this helps a little.

no I was just trying to figure out the year of this planter and it has round seed bins but it doesn't have any fertilize bins

(quoted from post at 22:22:48 03/25/14) the serial # is 0970000u000916

I think IH machinery of this era had the serial number at the end of the number on the tag. I don't know if they were starting the serial numbers at something other than 1. Your's is an earlier one, either way.

Earlier 4-row 56's had 50H steel detachable drive chains on the wheels, the later ones used 2050 extended pitch roller chain. When exactly they switched to the roller chain, I'm not sure. They surely changed other things along the way, too.
