M Loader Fit Up

Hello, I sure could use some input. I have purchased a loader that supposedly came off a M. The front hardware does not match up to my frame bolt pattern so maybe their frame was some different. The front brackets have to extend forward as shown in the picture due to the length of the loader. To do that appears I need to bolt the brackets to the bolster. My instincts tell me I should fab a support from the bracket that would extend back and bolt to the main tractor frame. Would that be common approach or should I consider a different approach. My driveway is 1/4 mile long and I plan to replace the bucket on the loader with a different blade to push snow. Thanks, if someone has a pic of what I should do that would be very helpful.

(quoted from post at 18:41:16 03/25/14) Looks like maybe you just need to drill a few holes in the brackets. Weld that cut-out corner back in for the 4th bolt.

So its common place to bolt the bracket to the bolster? The two front bracket holes do not line up to the holes in the bolster so I would have to drill at least one there, not sure where that leaves me with the frame holes. I will have to go out and look again, probably drill some there as well. Thanks

You need to show us a picture of the loader also. I've never seen a loader mounted on an M that used a bracket like that one.

There is a lot more involved in the CORRECT installation of a loader than just bolting it to the tractor.

X2 on the picture of the whole loader, it would be helpful.

If it came off an M, then you shouldn't have to drill holes or cut anything. Those holes have to line up somewhere.

Many loaders on tractors of that era bolt to the frame rails near the front bolster, or to the front bolster itself, and clamp on to the rear axle housings.

If you can "mock up" the loader where it will be on the tractor by laying the side frames near where they clamp to the axle, you will be able to determine where that front bracket attaches.

REPLY: Thats what I thought, so I guess it did not come off a M or previous owner M modified cause the front brackets match nothing in the front....unfortunately

REPLY: That is the approach I am measuring to

I don't know what brand of loader it is either, but I don't think it will fit your M. There is too much hardware going across the top of it. Probably will not clear the muffler, and maybe won't clear the steering wheel either.

Ouch, I figured I would have to remove the muffler and the air filter tube to get it on, but I will double check measurements on the steering. Any trouble there was not evident to me but that does not mean it will clear. I will measure and check tomorrow. Thanks

Bolting the loader brackets only to the front cast
bolster was common practice. When I purchased an
IH 2000 loader off of a 460 to put on my 350 this
is where the front supports were attached. The
original brackets for the 350 also bolted only to
the casting. However, since I didn't have the 350
brackets and had to make new ones myself I
extended them back to also bolt into the frame
rails to help tie everything together. My
thinking was the same as yours in that it just
seemed like the right thing to do. But, there are
obviously a lot of 2000 loaders out there that see
heavy use that are supported only by the bolster
so it probably wasn't necessary.

Ok, commence torching and welding. Still not sure what it came off of, but it sounds like it will fit with some minor modification.

For scrap price, I wouldn't have any problems with putting a little work into it.

You might have to redesign the upper cross brace to be removable if it isn't already, but I don't think it will interfere with the muffler or air cleaner.

Rusty made the point about clearing the tractor so that will be measured after breakfast, I really did not think that would be an issue and surely hope you are right. At worst case if upper member needs adjustment removable is a good idea.

I look at scrap and see something usable, many see $185.00 per ton. Me and my bargain basement challenges, keeps the bones well limber. :) Thanks

I take the same view of old iron. It ain't scrap until there isn't enough of it remaining to be turned into anything useable, and then those small, odd-shaped pieces might get turned into yard art.

For what it's worth, the McCormick #30 and #31 loaders, made to fit the H and M, did require removing the muffler when installing, but then you put the muffler back on.

Well I hoisted it in the air as close to tractor measurements as I could. From the tractor axle forward the first cross member will need adjusted. It bolts on so that can be removed and reworked for clearance, just takes a little time. NOW, the second cross member appears iffy and I will have to be more precise to the point of pulling the tractor up to the loader to confirm. It appears it will clear but I cant tell for sure in this wind. For sure the muffler will have to come off. She aint pretty but the metal is solid and a little paint will change things. I am now wondering if I should just shift gears and install on an H that I think sits lower. I have one but it is a few miles from here. Thanks to all, I have some work to do..
